David Montgomery’s Instagram Cleanse, Cryptic Story, Fuel Lions Exit Rumors
Detroit Lions running back David Montgomery has left fans scratching their heads after he made some quiet moves and a cryptic story on Instagram.

Montgomery, who has been on the Lions' roster since 2023, has been a key factor in the Lions' successes the past two seasons. He's also become a fan favorite because of moments like this one from their Thanksgiving Day win in 2024.
David Montgomery's Reduced Role With the Lions This Season
However, this year, his role in the offensive plan has been noticeably reduced. (He only attempted four rushes for a total of 14 yards in the Lions' loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday.)
When asked about the situation by the Detroit Free Press recently, Montgomery simply stated,
I just do my job. - David Montgomery
But now, Lions fans are wondering if he's going to continue to do that job. A keen-eyed fan took to a Lions fan page on Facebook, asking why Montgomery had suddenly removed all posts on his Instagram account related to the Lions.
What Did David Montgomery Post on Instagram?
Looking into it, that appears to be the case, with the lone remaining post referencing the Lions (outside of sponsored or branded partnership content) being one from two weeks ago. That post features a photo of Montgomery in uniform, along with the text,
God Grant me Humility and Gratitude and relieve me of Selfishness and Fear #blessed
The fan also pointed out Montgomery's Instagram story, which just showed a photo of his jersey and pads on a shelf in the Lions' locker room.
The photo was accompanied by the song "Hardest Days" by Joyner Lucas. The song starts out with the lyrics,
And I think I've encountered my hardest days, Lord, won't You save me? Ooh, You know what I've been prayin' for, And I never thought I'd see this day, yeah, I gotta make it change, And I think I've encountered my hardest days
Detroit Lions Fan Reactions and Speculations About David Montgomery
Does this mean what many are speculating? Is Montgomery's time with the Lions over? Or is it simply a reflection on the fact that he's personally working through the reality of his diminished role on the offense? It seems we'll have to wait and see.
