Beloved Filipino Restaurant Reopens in Grand Rapids
A spot that dubs itself West Michigan’s only Filipino restaurant is back in Grand Rapids!

The Journey from Food Truck to Brick-and-Mortar
Adobo Boy began as a food trailer, pop-up diner, and catering service, run by Ace and Jackie Marasigan. The family-owned business is named after their son, lovingly nicknamed “Adob Boy,” who proudly calls himself the biggest fan of pork adobo.

In December 2023, Adobo Boy opened its first brick-and-mortar restaurant by leasing a spot inside Amazing Myanmar Asian Cuisine on 28th Street. The space was a food hall housing three restaurants, including Brunch and Rice. By November 2024, Brunch and Rice had decided not to renew their lease, and the food hall closed the following month. Adobo Boy announced it was looking for a new home and shuttered at that location in March.
Adobo Boy's New Location on Plainfield Ave. in Grand Rapids
While operating a food truck and hosting pop-ups, the Marasigans eventually secured a new location at 4492 Plainfield Ave. NW. They spent the following months renovating and building out the space, creating a permanent home for Adobo Boy. The food truck was sold so they could focus fully on the new restaurant.
Now, the wait is finally over! Adobo Boy kicked off its soft-opening Dec. 1–2, giving fans a first look at the new space while the team fine-tunes the kitchen flow and dining area.
