Caribbean-Themed Restaurant Chain Is Calling It Quits After 30 Years
After more than 30 years in business, a Caribbean-themed casual dining chain is shutting down its restaurants nationwide.

You may recognize the restaurant if you have ever received a gift card tied to Darden Restaurants, the company behind Olive Garden, LongHorn Steakhouse, and Ruth’s Chris Steak House.
Bahama Breeze Shutting Down Nationwide
That chain is Bahama Breeze Island Grille. Built around the idea of an “island getaway,” the restaurant leaned hard into beachy décor and menus filled with coconut shrimp, jerk chicken pasta, seafood paella, and tropical cocktails. Well, you'll have to get there soon for one more meal with island vibes.

Darden Restaurants announced in a recent press release that it plans to close the 28 remaining Bahama Breeze locations later this year. According to CNN, this comes after a turbulent year for the brand. In 2025, roughly a third of Bahama Breeze restaurants across the country shut down with little warning, signaling that bigger changes were likely coming.

This time around, not every location is meeting the same fate. Some restaurants will close permanently, while others will be converted into different Darden-owned concepts. The company has not yet said which brands will replace Bahama Breeze at those locations, but it has shared which restaurants will continue in another form and which ones will not.
Is Bahama Breeze in Michigan Closing?
That distinction hits close to home in Michigan. The state’s only remaining Bahama Breeze, located in Livonia, is on the list of restaurants set to close for good. According to Darden, those locations are expected to remain open through April 5. This follows the closure of the Troy location last May.
The restaurants that will transition to new concepts are all located in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, leaving Michigan completely without the once-popular chain.
