Exceptionally Rare Former Grist Mill Turned Home From 1848 For Sale
Yesterday, the popular account Zillow Gone Wild posted about a 178-year-old home in Belmont. But it wasn't just an old home; it's a former grist mill turned home with a private waterfall, a gorgeous exposed-wood interior, and some impressive history involving a former President to boot.

Yeah, that's quite an impressive tease that made me HAVE to look into this home more, and it did not disappoint. While it's $725,000, it's out of reach for some; whoever does manage to call this place home is locking in a property that will be the source of jealousy for years to come. Let's explore the Imperial Mill.

The Imperial Mill: From 1848 To 2026
According to the listing, this 5-bed, 3-bath home, set on 4 acres with a private waterfall, is primed for hydroelectric power production in Belmont. It is stunning to look at, but its history is just as intriguing.

Originally a grist mill, a mill that grinds grain into flour, it was rebuilt in 1881 and turned into a home. Parts of the home still feature remnants of the mill, but the building has been a home for far longer than it was a mill. It is, by all means, a one-of-a-kind home, especially in its condition.

This home is so special that it frequently saw Gerald R. Ford, then a Congressman before becoming the 38th President of the United States, wandering its halls and staying over. The home was owned by Jack Stiles, who led Ford's first successful campaign for Congress. The Imperial Mills, more like Presidential Mills.
Imperial Mills' Beautiful Wood Interior
From the interior, you would never guess that this home is over 150 years old. Beautiful exposed red wood is all throughout the home, from the main floor to the master bedroom.
The home also has a four-stall garage, modern appliances, AC, and two fireplaces. Each room is a masterpiece in its own right. This home will be off the market (update: a sale is currently pending), so if you're interested, schedule a tour with Giuseppe Lupis as soon as possible.
