Halloween is right around the corner, and things that go bump in the night are ramping up. Costumes are getting made, parties are being thrown, and haunted houses are giving people scares they'll see in their dreams for months. But as cool as a haunted house is, there's a city in Michigan that offers a unique twist on the haunted house - namely, that it isn't a house.

What if instead of worrying about trespassing on haunted land, you spend the spookiest night of the year on a haunted ghost ship? Manistee has one, and even if you can't make it during the spooky season, this ship is something you won't want to miss.

Manistee's Ghost Ship: The S.S. City of Milwaukee

It's not often you can get scared for a good cause, but that's the operation running aboard the S.S. City of Milwaukee. The S.S. City of Milwaukee is a car ferry built in 1931 that once transported train cars, automobiles, and passengers across Lake Michigan, before becoming a museum for the last 40 years.

As a fundraising effort for the museum, it has become a haunted attraction for October, a tradition that's been a hit for over 26 years.

So yes, the ship is real, the scares are real; the ghosts are not (well, maybe). You can view the ghost ship's schedule here. But the museum is open year-round, and you can experience it in a less spooky way, too.

The S.S. City of Milwaukee Boatel

During the months it isn't haunted, the car ferry is also a boatel on top of being a museum. You can live like it's the 1930s by staying on the boat. The boat is permanently docked, but it'd still be a cool experience. For details on the boatel, click here.

Unique (or Weird) Buildings You Have To See Around Michigan
