
Michigan Flower Festivals Compete to Be Best in U.S.
Can't wait for spring? Honestly, same. This winter certainly has been a rough one so far. I know I'm dreaming of warmer weather, but not just that. It's awesome each year to see green returning to the landscape, flowers blooming, and new life popping up everywhere—all the little reminders that winter won’t last forever.

And here in Michigan, those reminders come with some serious style. Two of the state’s most beloved flower festivals are in the running for Best Flower Festival in the U.S. USA Today and 10Best experts picked 20 top flower festivals from across the country, and now it’s up to voters to decide which blooms the brightest.

Michigan has two contenders in the top five, each offering its own unique celebration of color, fragrance, and fun. One brings millions of tulips and Dutch heritage to downtown Holland, while the other fills Mackinac Island with fragrant lilacs, parades, and classic island charm.

Tulip Time: Holland in Full Bloom
Tulip Time, happening in early May 1-10 this year has been a Michigan tradition for nearly a century.
The festival transforms Holland with 6 million tulips, including over 200,000 in the downtown area, alongside parades, live music, dancing, and artisan markets. USA Today calls it “a spectacular floral display paired with cultural traditions.”
Mackinac Island Lilac Festival: Fragrant Island Fun
The Mackinac Island Lilac Festival, set for June 5-14,celebrates its 78th year in 2026.
Visitors can enjoy horse-drawn carriage rides, a 10k run, lilac planting seminars, live music, and the Grand Parade, capped off with the coronation of the Lilac Queen. USA Today notes it “ushers in summer with family-friendly events and blooming lilacs.”
