Wolverines Fined Big After NCAA Sign-Stealing Ruling
NCAA Fines the Michigan football program tens of millions and suspends current head coach Sherrone Moore for three games for the sign-stealing scandal.
Jim Harbaugh left Michigan for the NFL just in time, it seems. Although the sign-stealing scandal took place during Harbaugh's tenure at Michigan, it will not affect his career in the NFL.
A Shadow Cast Over The Michigan National Championship
The Michigan Wolverines won the college football National Championship game on January 8, 2024. Harbaugh was suspended for the first three games in the 2023 season for player recruiting violations. Then, the last three regular-season games were missed due to the Big Ten sign-stealing scandal.
The Wolverines had an incredible 2023–24 season, winning a National Championship, but the actions of the coaching staff will forever cast a shadow over the title, despite the players having no involvement in the scouting and sign-stealing scandal.

NCAA Drops Heavy Fine On Michigan For Sign Stealing
According to WOOD TV, the NCAA has imposed heavy fines on the University of Michigan and suspended current head coach Sherrone Moore for three games due to the sign-stealing scandal that occurred during the team’s championship season.
The 3-game suspension for Moore will not be until the 2026-27 season. He was also issued a two-year show-cause order, but allowed to fulfill coaching commitments and other athletically related activities.
Michigan's fines from the NCAA will exceed $20 million. Below is a list of other penalties on the football program:
- 10% Fine on U of M Football Budget
- 10% Fine on U of M Football Scholarships for 2025-2026 Seasons
- A 25% Reduction in Official Visits During the Upcoming Season
- A 14-week prohibition on football recruiting communications
- Connor Stalions, who conducted the scouting and sign-stealing, issued an 8-year show-cause order.
- Jim Harbaugh received a 10-year show-cause order and was prohibited from engaging in all college athletically related activities.

It raises the question: was it all worth it?
