You Can Spend Date Night With Mini Highland Cows in West Michigan
My birthday is coming up, and I’ve been trying to find something to do with my husband that doesn't feel like the usual routine. Dinner out is great, but I’ve been looking for something a little more unique and out-of-the-ordinary.

Mini Cows and More at Thunder Acre Highlands in Sand Lake
That is how I ended up coming back to Thunder Acres Highlands in Sand Lake. The farm has been on my radar for a while now, mostly because those mini Highland cows are so ridiculously cute!

Plus the scenery looks breathtaking. If you're not familiar, Thunder Acres Highlands breeds and raises micro, mini, and mid-size Highlands and Highparks Cows at 21592 Kimball Road in Sand Lake.
You'll also find horses, goats, alpacas, pigs, bunnies, and cats at the farm.
Date Night, But With Mini Highland Cows
They've hosted hosted plenty of festivals and special events before, but something I'm just learning about is Date Night at Thunder Acres. It's one of the more creative date ideas I’ve seen around West Michigan lately!
Instead of another crowded restaurant or movie night, this is two hours out on the farm during sunset, surrounded by animals, gardens, and open space.

What’s Included at Thunder Acres Date Night
Here’s how it works: you get a two-hour evening out on the farm during sunset. Your date includes a charcuterie tray to share, a beverage, and a bucket of treats for the animals. You can wander the farm, stroll the gardens and shop, pet the Highland babies, snap photos, and just soak in the whole experience.

There are also four seating areas you can claim first come, first served: the Pasture Pavilion, a wooden swing/firepit setup, a flower garden/firepit area, or patio whiskey barrel seating.
It’s $200 per package, and from what I’ve heard, these kinds of experiences tend to sell out fast. In fact, the next two Fridays are already booked, which says a lot!
Somewhere between the sunset, the animals, and the slower pace of it all, this feels like the kind of date night that actually sticks with you. So I might just be spending my birthday with some new, adorable cow friends!
