After what happened tonight at my house I WILL NEVER look at a severe storm the same way again.

Earlier tonight, I let my dogs out because I saw that a severe storm front was not far away from reaching my house in Grand Rapids.

While letting Benny and Paddy outside to go to the bathroom, I went to the street to bring in the garbage and recycling bins.

Next, I was going to move my car from the driveway so my wife, who was on her way from the store, could pull in and then I would pull in behind her.

Right as I put the bins back where they belong, a large gust of wind came blowing in and I saw the big tree in our backyard bend like I've never seen it before.

Thinking that the tree might break and remembering the dogs were still in the backyard, I moved as quickly as I could (My left hip is bone on bone and needs to be replaced).

Right as I got near my front porch, the wind kicked up again and the tree came crashing down.

I started screaming/crying thinking that the giant tree might have killed both of my dogs but, thank god, Benny and Paddy are some tough dogs and were just really shaken up.

Currently, as I'm typing this, my wife Lindsey is on the phone with our home insurance company trying to figure out what we're doing next.

I don't know what happens next with insurance and our house, and at the end of the day I don't really give a damn.

I'm just so thankful that everyone is going to be ok.

Let this also serve as a friendly reminder that when a Meteorologist on your tv or radio tells you that severe weather is on its way take their warnings seriously.
