Gamers Can Now Level Up During Their Layovers at Detroit Metro Airport
Last weekend, when I flew out of Dallas, I noticed a storefront that was stacked full of gaming systems and PCs, ready to be played.
Can you imagine a spot where kids and adults could pass the time with Mario Kart instead of doom-scrolling while waiting at their airport gate? Sounds Genius. Now, travelers at Detroit Metropolitan Airport can finally get in on the fun too.
Gameway, a company bringing gaming lounges to airports across the country, just opened not one but two lounges inside DTW’s McNamara Terminal.
Starting this month if you catch a flight, they are open daily from 7 am to 9 pm. The lounges offer Xbox, PlayStation, PC, and even retro games ready for travelers to hop on play while they wait for a delay. According to the owners, they offer games for all ages including everything from Mario Kart, to Fortnite.
Or you can even jump back into your personal account to pick up where you left off at home. (Hooray for cloud saves!)
On top of offering a chance to catch up on your saved games, guests can grab a drink (Alcohol included!), a snack, and settle into a comfy setup while they wait for their boarding call.
Whether you’ve got 30 minutes to kill or an entire afternoon before a long-haul flight, there’s a pricing option to match: $17.99 for 30 minutes, $27.99 for an hour, or $45.99 for a day pass.
Detroit is now the 10th Gameway location in the country. Since the company’s first lounge opened, travelers have racked up more than 477,000 hours of play and taken down over 1.7 million bosses. Now, DTW fliers can add to those stats, one round of Fortnite at a time.
