Michigan Jeopardy! Fans Spot Big Edmund Fitzgerald Mistake

Even a dumb guy like myself sometimes gets a question or two correct.

Growing up, my wife watched Jeopardy! every night with her family after dinner.

Several years ago, she was able to audition for Jeopardy!. Several months later, she got a call offering her an opportunity to play on the show.

It was an incredible experience to watch the taping, and I’m still a little jealous that she got to meet Alex Trebek.

Some people, such as my wife, are very passionate about the show and notice when the clues are written improperly or are just wrong.

Recently, a clue came up with the correct response ‘What is the Edmund Fitzgerald?

This is the clue that was given:

This song includes, "The searchers all say they'd have made Whitefish Bay (Wisconsin) if they'd put 15 more miles behind her"

While there is a Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin, the correct answer is Whitefish Bay, Michigan.

One person in a Jeopardy Fan Group left a comment that explained why the question was wrong.

Whitefish Bay in Wisconsin is a city just north of Milwaukee, and is on Lake Michigan. The EF sunk in Lake Superior. The 15 miles more she needed would have put her in the Whitefish Bay, which is protected by land on three sides, in Lake Superior. Clearly the folks who write the Jeopardy “answers” need to get it right.

That woman sounds like she could be on Jeopardy! herself with that knowledge.
