Detroit Lions Star Unhappy To Be Playing On Christmas Day

Since 1934, the Detroit Lions have played football on Thanksgiving Day.

In more recent years, the Lions have also played on Christmas Day.

In 1994, they played the Miami Dolphins on the road and lost 27-20, and in 1999, they played at home at the Pontiac Silverdome, losing 17-7 to the Denver Broncos.

The Lions are once again playing on Christmas as they head on the road to take on NFC North rival Minnesota Vikings.

This Christmas Day game is part of a deal between the NFL and Netflix which will air the game.

While some people might be excited about seeing the Lions play on Christmas, one player isn’t holding back with their thoughts.

Detroit Lions offensive tackle Penei Sewell shared with MLive that he's not happy with playing on Christmas Day:

“I’m going to be brutally honest. I’m not happy, We already have Thanksgiving. We already play on Thanksgiving, and the fact that we have to play on Christmas (and) away, is something I wouldn’t want to do. So yeah, not fun, but it is what it is. It comes with the job. I’m going to do it.”

I can’t say I blame Sewell or any other Lions player who isn’t happy with the Christmas Day game.

It’s got to be hard to be away from your family on such a big day and missing out on those special moments Christmas morning.
