This New Caledonia Thrift Store Lets You Shop and Support Others
If you like your shopping to go a little further, there’s a new stop worth knowing about in Caledonia.
Mel Trotter Ministries has just opened a brand-new thrift store at 9377 Cherry Valley Avenue SE, giving shoppers another place to hunt for gently used clothing, books, and furniture while directly supporting people in need right here in West Michigan.
The store officially opened its doors earlier this week, and it’s doing more than just filling racks and shelves. Every purchase helps fund Mel Trotter’s core services, including its shelter, transitional housing programs, recovery support, and job training efforts.
Which is great because that means the coat, coffee table, or stack of books you take home is quietly doing some great things behind the scenes.
This new Caledonia location also doubles as a donation center, making it easier for people in the area to drop off gently used items instead of letting them sit in a garage or get tossed out to rot in a landfill.
If the name sounds familiar, that’s because Mel Trotter has been doing this for a long time. And, the Caledonia store becomes the organization’s eighth thrift location across the region, joining existing stores in Walker, Sparta, Jenison, Belding, Grand Rapids, Kentwood, and Hudsonville.
Thrift stores like this hit that sweet spot for shopping. You get affordable prices, secondhand finds with character, and the knowledge that your money isn’t just circulating, it’s helping someone get back on their feet. I call that guilt free shopping.
If you’ve been meaning to clean out a closet, upgrade your winter wardrobe without wrecking your budget, or just want your errands to feel a little more purposeful, this new Mel Trotter thrift store is officially open and ready for you.
