
Michigan Court Rules Man Can Sue Hospital Where He Was Attacked By A Goose
The Michigan Court of Appeals has allowed a man who worked as a contract employee at a Michigan hospital to move forward with his lawsuit against that hospital.

The ruling was handed down on January 13, 2026.

The ruling lays out exactly what Eric Leiendecker says happened as he was exiting the hospital after his shift at Ascension Genesys Hospital (now owned by Henry Ford Health) following his shift as a security guard. According to Leiendecker and court records, as he exited the hospital, he was
Attacked and knocked to the ground by a goose.
The goose attack and subsequent fall resulted in Leiendecker sustaining a fractured hip, which required surgery to repair.

The Lawsuit Against Ascension Genysys Hospital Following Goose Attack
Court records claim that the hospital was aware that the goose was on the grounds of the hospital and that it had previously attacked other staff and patients as they exited the facility. The records go on to claim that the hospital did nothing to address the situation by removing the goose from the premises, nor did it warn employees or contractors about its presence on the grounds.
