The West Michigan Whitecaps are on the verge of history yet again this season. One more win tonight and the Whitecaps will hang their first championship banner in a decade inside LMCU Ballpark.

The only catch? They’ll have to win it in Iowa.

That’s right, despite a season that’s been nothing short of iconic here in West Michigan and across the country, the Midwest League’s rotating system means the final showdown happens at Veterans Memorial Stadium in Cedar Rapids instead of at LMCU Ballpark.

We all agree that it seems unfair after this hot streak, we have to miss out on seeing our team bring home the championship, right? Fans here are understandably bummed after all, nothing beats watching your home team clinch on home turf.

Still, Sunday’s 5–3 win over the Kernels in front of a packed hometown crowd at LMCU Ballpark gave us one last amazing memory before the team loaded onto buses Monday morning and headed west.

Now, it all comes down to Game 2 of the Midwest League Championship Series. First pitch is Tuesday at 7:35 p.m., and if the Whitecaps win, they’ll secure their seventh league title in franchise history. (If they lose, it goes to a final game to decide it all.)

The craziest part about tonight’s championship isn’t the fact that the Whitecaps last pulled it off back in 2015. It’s the fact it was against the exact same team in the exact same city. (Talk about déjà vu.)

So while we can’t pack the stands in Iowa, we can still make some noise here at home.

Fire up the grill, throw on your favorite Whitecaps gear, and tune in to the broadcast with Dan Hasty and Nate Wangler on the Whitecaps Baseball Network starting at 7:20 p.m. Or follow along online at WhitecapsBaseball.com

West Michigan has been waiting 10 years for this moment, so let’s bring it home (and watch it from home) tonight.
