Amazing! Did You Know Money May Be Waiting for You?
Most of us don't know that there is a Michigan unclaimed property or money portal that you can use to see if you have something sitting out there you either forgot or didn't know about.
COULD THIS BE A GOLD MINE FOR YOU?
The U.S. Department of the Treasury recently retired its Treasury Hunt tool and is directing people to use their state's "unclaimed" site to see if there is some money sitting out there for you.
The largest payout of claimed money in the United States was over $32 million dollars. It wasn't in Michigan, but that alone would keep me looking. Did I have a long, lost wealthy relative I didn't know about? Never hurts to check.
So, you have to turn to Michigan to check it out. The Michigan Unclaimed website says:
"The Michigan Department of Treasury has millions of dollars worth of lost or forgotten assets from dormant bank accounts, uncashed checks, valuables left in safe deposit boxes, and stock certificates. Because these properties were considered abandoned and unclaimed by the bank or company entrusted with them, they are turned over to the state, as required by law."
WHAT POSSIBLY COULD BE WAITING FOR ME?
There might be some of these: Unclaimed State Tax Refunds, Unpaid Back Wages and Salaries, Unpaid Pensions, Unclaimed Veterans' Life Insurance Funds, Unclaimed Federal Tax Refunds, Unclaimed Credit Union Deposits, Unclaimed Harmed Investors' Funds, Unclaimed Funds in a Foreign Country, Unclaimed Matured Savings Bonds, Unclaimed Bankruptcy Funds, Unclaimed Mortgage Refunds to name a few.
