Beloved “Pages and Peonies” Bookstore is Closing

Another locally owned bookstore has decided to call it a day and close up shop.

Pages and Peonies, the romance bookstore at 2751 Alpine Avenue, just announced that it seems the right time to step back from a brick and mortar store and re-focus their energies.

Owners Jess and Sarah posted on Instagram that even though the decision has been a difficult one, they have discovered two things.

"We’ve discovered our favorite thing about our business is the opportunity for participating in events that encourage inclusivity within the community, exposure and open-mindedness to the romance genre, and collaborations with other local artists and small businesses!
We’re also moving into the next phase of life where we’re hoping to expand our families, and we’d like more time and flexibility within our work-life balance."

They stress that they are not simply going away. They will be in "business" but in a different sort of way focusing on bookish event planning, on social media and online.

The two book lovers, Jess and Sarah, have been in retail for several years and selling online, with Sarah being a published author. But, as with so many of us, they find their needs and goals are changing and the call to focus on themselves and families has been great. Is there the perfect time to walk away and re-focus our lives? Probably not, but having the understanding and the will to do it is remarkable.
