Big Backups in the S-Curve With a New Project
Yes, we are in road construction season, and yes, we will have more backups. This time it will be in the S-Curve!
OH NO, HERE WE GO AGAIN!
It really is for a good reason as all road construction projects are. But, they are not digging up the S-Curve this time. Remember all of that pain we went through back then? Hard to believe it was eight years ago, 2018.

WHAT'S GOING ON?
Fox17 reported that MDOT, "The Michigan Department of Transportation, is removing and replacing lighting on both the northbound and southbound lanes of US-131 on the S-Curve between Wealthy and Pearl streets."
GOOD NEWS/BAD NEWS?
Yes to both. The GOOD News is that this $9 million project will provide new and much better lights and poles, and will also include better foundations providing more safety.

The BAD News is they began this morning, Monday, June 8, beginning with the southbound lanes from Cherry Street to Wealthy. They won't shut down all the southbound lanes thank goodness, just a single. However, some ramps will close as well. The on-ramps from Cherry Street southbound and Wealthy Street will also be closed.
John Richards from MDOT did say that more than just an S-Curve and ramps will be affected. MDOT will make every effort to stay off of 131 as much as possible. To do so Cherry Street, downtown, will have some lane closures as well as some parking lots.
HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE?

MDOT says they are hopping to wrap it up by the end of October. If you do need any further information just CLICK HERE ON THE MI DRIVE website.
