Sounds That Your Kids Have Never Heard
If your kids are under 20, chances are they've never heard the sound of a phone modem connecting, or a rotary phone's loud actual ringing. So, it got me to thinking, what other sounds have your kids never heard that you have?
Remember those days of waiting for someone to get off the phone so you could log on to AOL? It sounded something like this.
With the advent of Broadband, it is now an obsolete sound, as are these:
An iPad clickwheel.
An old school cell phone ring.
The Mac iOS "uh oh" sound. It did this when YOU screwed up, so it was almost as if it was taunting you.
And there's the sound of a floppy disc whirring.
The startling sound of a rotary phone ringing.
And since we're on the subject, the sound of a rotary phone being dialed.
The "You've Got Mail!" guy. Even though AOL still exists, we've all moved on to other e-mail providers, haven't we?
A pencil being sharpened manually. True story: this was too high tech for my mom, who used to whittle our pencils sharp using a kitchen knife.
A cash register. And with the emergence of self checkouts, we will soon be missing the sound of small talk with the check out girl.
A dot matrix printer, and that low quality result.
A TV station signing off. We knew when we were kids we stayed up too late when the TV station left the air after "The Ghoul" was off on Channel 50. It was scary and cool at the same time.
Mental Floss has another list, as does BuzzFeed.
What sounds can you add to our list?
