Welcoming a Brand New Radio Station to West Michigan

After an announcement from Audacy on Thursday, news of the "97.1 Detroit Sports Network" came to light, and 98.7 WFGR is a part of that magic. Effective December 1, 2025, 98.7 WFGR will be one of the first places you can hear the brand new "97.1 Detroit Sports Network," soon to be branded as Sports Radio 98.7.

What Sports Radio 98.7 Means For West Michigan

For West Michigan, the move means the conversations that usually start in Detroit about the Lions, Red Wings, Tigers, Pistons, and Michigan vs. Michigan State will now be available on 98.7 WFGR.

The New Weekday Line-Up For Sports Radio 98.7

The new addition will be an entirely new sound for 98.7, giving West Michigan listeners Detroit Sports Talk in the palm of their hands, and plugging in the most demanded sports content from the state of Michigan.

  • Costa & Jansen with Heather will air from 6 a.m. to 10 a.m. ET
  • The Karsch & Anderson Show will air from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET.
  • The Mike Valenti Show with Rico will air from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. ET.
  • Wojo & Riger will air from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. ET
  • Riger, Ryan, Caputo, and Chapman will air from 8 p.m. to midnight.

Jim Costa on Returning to the Radio in West Michigan

Jim Costa of Costa & Jensen with Heather is a name many in West Michigan will recognize. Previously, Costa talked about all things sports on another radio station in West Michigan.

On Facebook, Costa said,

I missed you guys out in West Michigan! Let's reconnect on the drive to work.

He also announced the news on X, saying,

Something I'm super excited about! GR was always good to me.
