Taste of Chicago Brings Authentic Windy City Flavors to Grand Rapids
I drive by 1419 Eastern Avenue almost every single day, so I was surprised when I realized a brand new spot had opened up where O&E Eatery used to be. It’s called Taste of Chicago, and if you love classic Windy City comfort food, this is one you definitely want on your radar.
The Mastermind Behind the Kitchen
If the menu sounds familiar, there is a good reason for it. The owner running the kitchen is Chef Steve Bunch. He’s originally from Chicago and moved to Grand Rapids twenty-four years ago, bringing all those authentic family recipes with him.

In addition to catering events in the area for years, Bunch was the original head chef at Chicago Beef Joint when it opened on Ottawa Ave. back in 2023. Prior to that, he operated Chicago Hood Spot on Franklin, which sadly closed during the pandemic. Now he’s finally back doing his own thing with Taste of Chicago.

On the menu you'll find tender rib tips, classic Chicago dogs, Polish sausage, loaded fries, pizza puffs, walking tacos, and juicy Italian beef sandwiches.
