Michigan has miles and miles of coastline along the Great Lakes. From miles of sandy beaches to the rugged rocky Superior coast to the marshes of Saginaw Bay it seems nearly every possible lake ecosystem could be found in the geography of Michigan.

So which areas of the state have the most interesting coast?

It's a question that came up on Reddit's Geography subreddit asking globally what are the most interesting coastlines.

Michigan merits just a side-eye glance on that survey. In discussing the coastlines of Lake Superior with a focus on Duluth, Marquette gets hit with:

Marquette’s coast is kinda boring (but nice & sandy) except for Sunset Cove on Presque Isle.

Marquette barely qualifies as a city

Ouch.

Still, we think there are many interesting coastlines across the state to discuss. Along Lake Michigan are Saugatuck, North Muskegon, Leland and Traverse City. St Ignace and Rodgers City on Lake Huron, Munising on Lake Superior and the Lost Peninsula in Lake Erie all bear a post on the list.
